Is thanking God the same as Praising Him?

Praise

To appreciate God for who He is not necessarily that He has done anything. Honoring His Lordship with understanding.

Thanksgiving

Expressing happiness or relief that God has done something or caused something not to happen in your favor.

Thanking God is merely done by words showing gratitude. Thanking Him for what He has done for you, e.g. “Thank God I am healed.”

It is based on the acknowledgment you have for God for the things he has given or done for you, but praise comes from the revelation you have for God. Praise can be more than words. It can be expressed through singing, poetry e.t.c.

Knowing what Praise and Thanksgiving are and understanding the difference it is obvious that they are closely related and can be used interchangeably as well. You may Praise God by thanking him and vise versa.
